Ski with a Naturalist

Tuesdays & Thursdays

December 15 – March 11

1:30 pm – 2:30 pm

This is a FREE program. A lift ticket NOT included. No registration required. Meet at the top of the Gondola at the start of the “Why Not” trail. Sponsored by Steamboat Ski and Resort Corporation.

 

Uranium Mine Snowshoe

Fridays

December 18 – March 12

10:00 am – 1:00 pm

This is a FREE program but Registration is required. Click on the calendar button (top right corner of the page) and select the specific date you want to attend. This program is for ages 16+. The location is Fish Creek Falls. Snowshoe rental is available for $10 per pair. This is a moderately strenuous tour along breathtaking Fish Creek Canyon with scenic overlooks. Sponsored by the US Forest Service.

 

Emerald Mountain Snowshoe

Saturdays

December 19 – March 13

10:00 am – 12:00 pm

The cost of the program is $25 and registration is required. The cost of the program includes a ride on the Howelsen Hill chair lift to the top (weather permitting) and snowshoes. Click on the calendar button (top right corner of the page) and select the specific date you want to attend. This program is for ages 16+. Yampatika reserves the right to adjust the program course based on weather or if the chair lift is not operating.

Winter Wander, Discover Snowshoeing!

Saturdays

January 9 – March 13

Tours offered at 10:00 am and 11:00 am

The cost of the program is $5 and registration is required. The cost of the program includes snowshoes. This is a flat snowshoe tour at historic Legacy Ranch with views of the Yampa Valley. Click on the calendar button (top right corner of the page) and select the specific date you want to attend.  This is an ALL AGES program. This is a great program for families, newbies, or groups interested in a short outing.

 

Moonlight Snowshoe Tours

December 29    –     January 28     –     February 27

Times Vary (specific times listed on event pages)

The cost of the program is $20 and registration is required. The cost of the program includes snowshoes. Starting around sunset, snowshoe up Emerald Mountain and see the full moon rise over Mt. Werner (exact location given after you register.) Click on the calendar button (top right corner of the page) and select the specific date you want to attend.  This program is for ages 18+.  This program runs in all weather conditions.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, program size may be limited based on local and state guidelines. Participants may be asked to wear a mask before and after a program. In addition, participants will have their temperature checked before the start of the program.

  • If cross country skiing is your interest, we do not provide lessons on how to ski or rent skis; these tours are for experienced skiers only.
  • Yampatika's naturalists can provide snowshoes for you to wear on your tour.
  • Our naturalists will adjust the speed of the tour to fit your party's ability and interests. Please give us an idea of what you are looking for.
  • Our naturalists are well versed in snow science, winter ecology of both animals and plants, and the geology and history of the Steamboat Springs area!
