About:
The Steamboat Ski Touring Center is minutes from downtown while still providing a wonderful nature experience. We often see wildlife, including elk, on our tours in this area, so it’s a must-do for animal lovers. This area is a golf course in the spring and summer, so it provides a nice flat area to snowshoe.

Howelsen Hill

About:
Howelsen Hill is a unique, historic location in Steamboat Springs, often credited as the birthplace of American skiing. We at Yampatika like it because we can utilize the Howelsen Hill chairlift (at no additional cost) and snowshoe around the Emerald Mountain area without all the uphill climbing. This area offers spectacular views, including an overlook spot that makes for a great photo stop.

This route may be unavailable if snow conditions are poor.

Available Routes:

Loop
2-hour snowshoe tour
1.5-miles with 500ft elevation loss

Rabbit Ears

About:
Rabbit Ears Pass is part of the Routt National Forest, about 25 minutes southeast of Steamboat Springs, so it provides a more back-country experience. The trails around Rabbit Ears cover a variety of ecosystems, from alpine forests to wetland meadows, which are always beautiful areas to explore. This area is popular for backcountry expeditions, but its distance from town makes it less busy than other trails.

This route is generally accessible, even in poor snow conditions.
