Mountainside Snowshoe Tour – 10:00am – 12:00pm

• The Steamboat Ski Touring Center is nestled between Fish Creek and the Steamboat Ski Resort- a mere 2.5 miles from the base of the resort. This snowshoe tour offers gentle rolling hills with stunning views and evidence of wildlife all around. This snowshoe tour is a fantastic morning activity to add to your visit to Steamboat!

Ski with a Naturalist – 1:30pm – 2:30pm

• Tuesdays and Thursdays, Dec. 23 – March 19
• Meet at the map near Thunderhead Lodge
• Free
• No registration required
• Mere steps away from the top of the Gondola, join a Yampatika Naturalist on the green run “Why Not.” Depending on the day, you could see old bear dens and claw marks, porcupine hang-out spots, and snow cameras! Along the way, you’ll learn about elk, moose, and the colorful birds that call the Steamboat Ski Resort home.

Fish Creek Falls Uranium Mine Snowshoe Tour – 10am – 1pm

• Fridays, Dec. 26 – March 20
• Upper Fish Creek Falls Parking Area, Transportation Provided
• $40-$45, depending on snowshoe rentals

• Fish Creek Falls is a must-see destination, and the Uranium Mine trail will give you sweeping views of the falls, canyon, ski resort, and surrounding mountains- all in one hike! This tour is a great way to stretch your legs from skiing/snowboarding, or a perfect way to get out on the snow if you’re not a skier/boarder yourself.

Community Science After Dark – Times vary

• Join Yampatika naturalists and US Forest Service biologists on this nighttime snowshoe tour! Throughout the tour, we will stop to survey for boreal owls and search for other species of interest on the ski mountain. Snowshoers will also be trained on the new Steamboat Ski Resort – Wildlife Watchers iNaturalist project.

Howelsen Hill Snowshoe Tour – 10am – 12pm

• Saturdays, Dec. 27 – March 21
• Howelsen Hill Lodge
• $30-$35, dependent on snowshoe rental
• Registration Required
• Located in easy-to-access downtown, this snowshoe tour features a chair lift to get the group up near the top of the hike (weather permitting lift use). The tour winds through multiple ecosystems full of signs of wildlife with an amazing view of the valley looking out towards the Steamboat Ski Resort.

Snowshoe with a Pro Takeover – 1 – 2:30pm

• Join Yampatika on this monthly collaboration with the Steamboat Ski Resort! Tag along as a Yampatika Naturalist and Steamboat Resort Pro guide you through this on-mountain snowshoe tour. All registration details are handled by the Steamboat Ski Resort.

Caught on Camera: Using Trail Cams for Science – Times TBD

• January 18th and March 22nd

• Help Yampatika and the US Forest Service by reviewing trail camera footage as part of a decades-long effort to monitor the Pacific Marten. Throughout the event, you will gain trail cam ID skills, learn about the Pacific Marten, and get connected to other trail camera community-science efforts so you can contribute to conservation right from your home.

Adult SnowSchool – 10am – 1pm

• Think the SnowSchool fun is just for kids? Think again! Join Yampatika as we explore the science of snow, from conducting column tests to studying snow crystals. This is a perfect introductory course to snow science for winter recreators, backcountry skiers, or curious lifelong learners.

Moonlight Snowshoe Tours

Join Yampatika under the light of the Full Moon for our popular Moonlight Snowshoe Tours. These events vary in time and date depending on the full moon. This year, we are offering the following Moonlight Snowshoe Tours:
