Back again, Yampatika is offering Grouse Lek tours this spring! This time, we’ll also visit a crane dance and be joined by the Colorado Crane Conservation Coalition.

About the Event:
Join Yampatika, the Colorado Crane Conservation Coalition, and Colorado Grouse Tours for our annual Grouse and Crane Tours!
On April 18th, enjoy the beauty just north of Hayden as we search for three species of grouse, Sandhill cranes, and many other species who call this area home. This tour will include a lot of driving between sites, allowing us to cover a lot of ground with the opportunity to find multiple species and visit numerous ecosystems. Along the way, you’ll learn from biologists on this expert-led program.
On May 2nd, join us as we venture to the Howe Ranch. Nestled within the breathtaking Elkhead area of the Yampa Valley, the Howe Ranch stands as a testament to stewardship and conservation. For half a century, Cal and Penny Howe dedicated their lives to ranching and land stewardship, cultivating a small cow/calf operation before retiring from livestock endeavors in 2012. Now, under the watchful eye of Penny, along with her daughter Emily (a botanist) and son-in-law Jeremiah (a wildlife biologist), the ranch has undergone a profound transformation.
Transportation will be provided for all participants from the Yampatika Office at 925 Weiss Drive in Steamboat Springs, Colorado. Snacks and hot drinks will be provided before loading onto our van, and breakfast will be provided along the way. All proceeds of this event go to Yampatika and the Colorado Crane Conservation Coalition.
